ICE NAVIGATION IN CANADIAN WATERS

The Canadian Goverment posted a revised edition of their book Ice Navigation in Canadian Waters, it is geared toward ships but it has alot of information small boaters traveling through the arctic can use. It can be down loaded here Ice Navigation in Canadian Waters.

Autumn ovet the Arctic Ocean is a season of falling temperatures and rapid groweth of sea ice. However as in recent years, low sea ice extent at the begining of autumn means large transfers of heat to the atmosphere from open water areas, keeping the arctic warmer than usual. Despite this warmth, freeze up is in high gear.     Credit NSIDC.

RCC ARCTIC PLANNING GUIDE

A new Planning Guide for the Arctic Has been published by the RCC Pilotage Foundation, it is a great resource for small vessels planning to traverse the North West or North East passages.  A couple of the authors sailed the Northwest Passage when I was sailing through.
